Curriculum
• Communication, Language & Literacy
In both small and large groups, children are encouraged
to extend their vocabulary and fluency by talking and listening, and by
hearing and responding to stories, songs and rhymes.
•
Personal, Social & Emotional development
Within a nurturing environment, children are helped
individually to build up confidence and self respect. They are
encouraged to play and work and concentrate independently and also, to
take part in the life of the group, sharing and co-operating with other
children and adults.
•
Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numbers
By means of supported activities, children will become
familiar with sorting, matching, ordering and counting, which forms the
basis of early mathematics. Songs, games and picture books help
children become aware of numbers and counting.
•
Physical Development
A
range of equipment and opportunities, both indoor and outside, allows
children to develop confidence and enjoyment in the use of their own
body skills. A high level of adult supervision enables children to
create and meet physical challenges safely, developing increasing skill
and control in moving, climbing and balancing. At the same time,
children are also helped to develop their fine motor skills using
pencils, puzzles and handling small objects.
•
Creative Development
Children are encouraged to express their own ideas and feelings.
Art equipment, including paint, crayons and pencils as well as messy
play, natural and discarded materials, provide the exploration of
colour, shape and texture. Children join in with and respond to
music and stories, and there are many opportunities for imaginative role
play, both individually and as part of a group. •
Knowledge
of the World
Supporting children in developing the knowledge, skills and
understanding that help them make sense of the world.
EYFS - The
Early Years Foundation Stage
Schools and early years providers
have to follow a structure of learning, development and care for
children from birth to five years old. This is called the Early Years
Foundation Stage (EYFS) and it enables your child to learn through a
range of activities. The four Themes of the EYFS are:
•
A Unique Child
•
Positive Relationships
• Enabling Environments
•
Learning and
Development These four Themes express the corresponding four
Principles:
•
Every child is a
competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident
and self-assured.
•
Children learn
to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure
relationships with parents and/ or a key person.
•
The environment
plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and
learning.
•
Children develop and
learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning
and Development are equally important and inter-connected.
